Abele Bolla started making and selling his own wines through his own restaurant. Over the years, Bolla wines gained fame in Italy and internationally. April 3, 1953 was an important day in the history of Bolla and the wine world. To celebrate Albero Bolla's 80th birthday, the family had made a very special wine from the 1950 harvest. Amarone Bolla Riserva del Nonno 1950 was the first purposefully produced Amarone wine. By 2009, GIV had acquired the rights to Bolla wines and continues the legacy of the Bolla family.
